Square Knot Awards
What are those patches under the leader's names any way? The Square knot is a universal symbol of Scouting and is used as the basis for many of the Adult Leader Awards and recognition of awards earned as a youth.

Arrow of Light Square Knot: This represents the highest award that can be earned in Cub Scouting. The Arrow of Light Square Knot can be worn by an adult who earned the Arrow of Light patch as a Webelos Scout.

Eagle Award Square Knot: Worn by adults who earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth member. The Eagle Scout is the highest youth rank in the Boy Scouting program.

Eagle Award Square Knot with Gold Palm: Palms represent additional advancement for a young man who has earned five additional merit badges beyond those required for Eagle or the last Palm. The Palms are awarded in three colors: bronze, representing five merit badges; gold, representing ten merit badges; and silver, representing fifteen merit badges.

Religious Emblem Square Knot: Worn by youth and adult members who earned a religious emblem as a youth member.

Scoutmaster Award of Merit: is earned by a Scoutmaster who has served in that position for at least 18 months and has achieved the Quality Unit Award at least once during his period of service. Certain training requirements have been completed. Has a record of proper use of the Boy Scout advancement program, resulting in a majority of his Boy Scouts attaining the First Class rank. Also has a record of development of boy leadership, positive relations with the troop's chartered organization, extensive outdoor program including strong summer camp attendance, a positive image of Scouting in the community and troop operation that attracts and retains Boy Scouts.

Cub Scout Den Leader Award: This award is presented to Cub Scout Den Leaders who complete required training and participation in Pack and District events and Roundtables.

Webelos Den Leader Award: This award is presented to Webelos Den Leaders who complete required training and participation in Troop and District events.

District Award of Merit: Is awarded by a Council District to volunteer adults for service to youth in the District.

Silver Beaver Award: Is presented upon action of a Council Executive Board for outstanding service to youth within the Council or for outstanding longtime service to youth by a registered Scouter residing within that Council. The average tenure for Silver Beaver candidates is ten years or longer.

Vigil Honor: Is actually not a patch but a sash worn by a member of the Order of the Arrow who has recieved the Vigil Honor. The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America.
